Kaylee Gommel's fight against Neuroblastoma. This is her Road to Recovery!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Before the hustle and bustle of the day begins, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the continued support for our family. I still have so many people asking me how Kaylee is doing, and it is great to say that she if doing wonderfully! Actually, she had an MIBG scan right before Halloween, and it came back clean! And with that result, it has been 12 months of clean scans since she had been on any kind of therapy! Dr. Levien is comfortable with moving her scans to every 6 months for the next year, rather than every 3 months. And after her monthly appointment next week, we are going to start going every other month for blood draws and urine tests, all signs of a healthy child in remission!

Kyle and Kaylee are both doing well at school, and all of their teachers had good things to say at conferences. Kaylee does not seem to be exhibiting any learning issues from all the chemotherapy, for which we are so grateful. Kyle has adjusted well to middle school, a big change from elementary school. We live close enough to the school, so he is able to walk each day, and he is really enjoying his independence.

Tuesday was Kyle’s 12th birthday, so Happy Birthday Kyle! He asked for lasagna and coconut cream pie, so that was our dinner on Tuesday (and Wednesday) night :). He is so excited that he can now sit in the front seat of our car…he still keeps getting into the back seat out of habit! Grandma and Papa through the Woods and Uncle Tom came over to have pie with us, and Kyle will see his cousins this weekend 🙂

And Kaylee just finished up a 9 week dance class last week through the city rec program. It is such a joy to watch her dance, and she concentrates so hard! These are the things that a little girl should do, and again we are so thankful that she can do them. She is looking forward to the next class that starts in January.

Kyle received clearance from his knee surgeon, Dr. Saluan, to play in a basketball league this year. Although his knee is not 100% healed yet, Dr. Saluan gave him the ok. The league starts in December, and he is very excited about it! League basketball is new to everyone in our family, so it will be a learning experience for us all! His last appointment with Dr. Saluan in September showed continued improvement on his knee, but he is not ready to release him yet. We will go back in 6 months for another x-ray and exam. We will keep a close eye on his knee for any pain or swelling during basketball – we hope we don’t have any of that!

So, our family is moving along each day with lots of “normal” activities now. My posts are further and further apart and filled with less medical talk! We hope that you all realize how much we are thankful for all the prayers and support for our family. Thank you! We hope you are able to spend this Thanksgiving day with friends and family and loved ones. We are sending lots of prayers for a wonderful day full of thanks. Hugs and Kisses coming your way!

It was great to play with everyone this past weekend. Orion and Declan loved playing Laser Tag, and bowling. They told all their friends about the crazy ways you had them bowl. I am so thankful that both are getting healthy, and having a good school year!

    Love,

    Aunt Lynda
